Awards and Grants
In the past fiscal year, the Virginia Society gave college scholarship awards to the winners of the Weedon History Essay Contest and provided financial aid to students at the Law and Medical Schools at the University of Virginia. The Society funded commencement awards for outstanding graduates at the United States Military Academy, the United States Naval Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, Virginia Military Institute and Virginia Tech.
Visiting Scholar grants were distributed to the University of Richmond, Hampden-Sydney College, Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Military Institute. The Society supported the National Institute of American History and Democracy (a summer program for high school students sponsored by the College of William and Mary and Colonial Williamsburg Foundation), a conservation project at the Virginia Historical Society, and the “Portrait in the Schools” program administered by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association.
The Virginia Society gave financial support to the General Society’s headquarters at Anderson House in Washington, DC, to help fund its educational programs, library, and museum.
The grants and awards are intended to promote study and discussion of the Revolutionary era and support the education of our future leaders.
